Buying Guidance

How to choose SITKA clothing

SITKA is built as a system. Start with the conditions you spend the most time in.

01

Work out your active layer

The piece you wear walking in matters most. Choose breathable and light — you can always add warmth on top.

02

Add insulation for still time

Glassing, cold starts, slow stalking and sitting need warmth that packs down. Insulation is easier to carry than to do without.

03

Then choose your shell

Sustained rain needs a waterproof outer. Showers and wind need something lighter, and more breathable.

04

Check the pieces work together

Layers should fit over each other without binding. A shell that is tight over a mid layer restricts movement where you need it.

Common questions

What should I wear for cold-weather hunting?

Build from a breathable base layer, add an insulating mid layer for the time you spend still, and finish with a windproof or waterproof shell. The aim is to stay dry from the inside as well as the outside — sweat trapped on the walk in will chill you the moment you stop.

Is SITKA worth the price?

SITKA sits at the technical end of the market. If you spend long days outside in changing weather, the breathability, durability and weather protection are what you are paying for. For occasional fine-weather use, simpler layers may be enough.

How should I size SITKA clothing?

Allow for layering. If you plan to wear a mid layer under a jacket, size for that combination rather than for the jacket on its own.

What makes outdoor clothing technical?

Technical clothing is designed around a job — moisture management, breathability, weather protection, quiet fabric or freedom of movement — rather than around looks. The fabric, cut and features are all chosen for how the garment performs in the field.
