How to Choose a Bino Harness

A bino harness is essential for keeping your optics and rangefinder at the ready.

The  Marsupial Enclosed Chest Pack protects from dust/debris in the field and especially while riding in an SXS. It keeps moisture away from your optics during inclement weather. One handed. silent access means you don't have to set your weapon down to access your glass. The pack’s design allows you to open the lid for quick and silent access and close it with ease.

Marsupial harnesses have a range of accessory pouches that can create a modular system and work with what ever your you need to carry on a hunt.

Sitkas mountain optics harness is the ultimate utility piece for big game hunters.
The harness features a silent secure magnetic one-handed front flap for binos.
Removable, modular side pockets keep rangefinders, GPS, cell phone and other accessories at the ready for quick quiet access.
Additional elastic pockets deliver storage for a knife or a wind gauge and the internal lens cloth keeps your glass clean and sharp. The Mountain Optics Harness is rounded out with a brushed polyester face fabric for close in silent stalks.

The Sitka harness only comes in one size so larger binoculars may not fit.

Sizing it to your binos

    • Sizing guides are available
    • Measure your optic or bring it in to check the fit.
    • Objective size is the number that matters most. A 42 mm bino needs a bigger pouch than a 32 mm.
    • Measure or check the fit with the eyecups up or down however you actually use them.

Bino harness FAQs

Do I really need a bino harness for bowhunting?

  • If you use binoculars, yes. A harness keeps them quiet, protected and instantly available, and stops them swinging into your bow or string.

Will my binoculars fit?

  • Most harnesses suit standard 8x42 and 10x42 binoculars. Larger binos may need a bigger size. Call us on 09 636 6359 or bring your binos into our Mt Eden store and we'll check the fit.

Can I carry a rangefinder in a bino harness?

  • Yes. Many harnesses have a built-in rangefinder pocket or can take an add-on pouch that attaches to the side.

Enclosed or open-top — which is better for New Zealand?

  • For New Zealand hunting, an enclosed harness is the recommended choice because it protects your optics from rain, mud and scrub.

Does a bino harness get in the way when I draw my bow?

  • Not when it's fitted correctly. Adjust it to sit high and tight on your chest so your string and bow arm have clear paths. We're happy to help you set it up in-store.
