SITKA Technical Hunting Clothing

SITKA technical clothing for serious field use

SITKA builds clothing as a system - lightweight layers for movement, mid layers for warmth, insulation for the cold and shells for the weather, each designed to work with the next rather than replace it.

We stock SITKA for people who need clothing that performs in the field, not outdoor apparel that looks the part. Base layers, fleece, down, wet weather shells and the gloves, caps and gaiters that finish the system.

Why Advanced Outdoors

Why Advanced Outdoors stocks SITKA

SITKA earns its place because it is built as a clothing system rather than a catalogue of jackets. Every piece has a defined job and a defined place in the order you put them on.

01

Designed as a system

Base, mid, insulation and shell are built to work together, so pieces combine instead of competing for the same space.

02

Breathable under load

Performance fabrics move heat and moisture while you are still climbing, not only once you stop.

03

Weather you can plan for

Dew Point and Jetstream shells are built for sustained rain and exposed wind, not a shower on the walk back to the car.

04

Warmth without bulk

Ambient, MicroDown and Kelvin insulation add heat for cold starts and glassing, then pack down small enough to carry.

05

Built past casual use

Fit, articulation, quiet fabric and hardware chosen for people who are out all day, in the dark and in the wet.

What to Look For

How to choose the right SITKA layer

The right piece depends less on the label than on the job you need it to do and what you are already wearing. Five things worth settling before you buy.

Read the layering guide
  • Start with your activity level

Moving hard needs breathability first; sitting still needs insulation first. Most people buy the second when they needed the first.

  • Breathability over raw warmth

A layer that overheats on the climb comes off and gets carried. Warmth you can regulate beats warmth you cannot.

  • Match the shell to the weather you actually get

A packable rain jacket and a sustained-wet-bush shell are different tools. Dew Point and Dew Point Pro sit either side of that line.

  • Check it works over what you own

Insulation sized with no room for a mid layer underneath ends up worn on its own, which wastes the system.

  • Quiet fabric where it matters

For hunting, fabric noise on a still morning is a real consideration. For farm and field work it is not - do not pay for it twice.

New Zealand Field Conditions

SITKA in New Zealand conditions

Cold starts, wet bush, exposed tops and long days - often in the same trip. The point of a system is that it absorbs that change without you carrying four jackets.

Wet bush

Sustained rain and soaked scrub is the hardest test. A shell that manages it, over a base layer that dries fast.

Cold starts

Insulation you can put on before dawn and pack away by nine.

Active climbs

Breathable base and mid layers, so you are not soaked from the inside.

SITKA FAQs

What is SITKA clothing best used for?

SITKA suits anyone who needs technical layers for serious field use — hunting, glassing, long walks in and out, wet weather, cold starts and full days outside. It is built for people whose clothing has to keep working when the conditions change rather than look right at the trailhead.

Is SITKA only for hunting?

No. SITKA is strongly associated with hunting, and the camo patterns reflect that, but the base layers, fleece, insulation and wet weather shells are just as useful for farm work, tramping, bush work and any job that involves being outside in changeable weather. Several pieces — the Core Lightweight Hoody, Alpha Fleece and Dew Point jackets — come in solid colours.

How should I layer SITKA clothing?

Start with a lightweight base layer for moisture control, add a mid layer such as the Core Midweight Zip-T or Alpha Fleece for warmth, add insulation like the Ambient 100 or MicroDown when you stop moving, and put a Dew Point or Jetstream shell over the top for rain and wind. Buy in that order — the base layer earns its keep every trip, the insulation only on cold ones.

Which SITKA layer should I choose for warm weather?

A Core Lightweight Hoody or Core Lightweight Crew. Both are breathable, dry quickly and give you hooded sun cover, which matters more in New Zealand than most people allow for. The Icon Tee is the lighter option again for genuinely hot days.

What SITKA gear should I choose for wet conditions?

The Dew Point Rain Jacket for packable rain protection, or the Dew Point Pro jacket and pants for sustained wet bush where you will be pushing through soaked scrub for hours. Make sure whatever you choose fits over the mid layer you actually wear underneath.

Why buy SITKA from Advanced Outdoors?

We stock SITKA as part of a curated technical range rather than as a name to have on the shelf, we hold genuine authorised stock with warranty support, and we can tell you which piece fills the gap in what you already own instead of selling you the most expensive jacket in the range.
