Any job that needs both hands and reliable light - early starts, late walk-outs, field dressing, camp and hut use, vehicle and emergency kit, and general work outside after dark. The HM series suits sustained use; the lighter HL models suit a lamp that lives in the pack.
Fenix headlamps for field, hunting and emergency use
Fenix makes lighting that is treated as equipment rather than an accessory - rechargeable, weather-sealed, with usable output levels instead of one blinding setting and a flat battery.
We stock the headlamp range: the HM series for hands-free work in the dark and the lighter HL series for a lamp that lives in the pack. Every one is chosen because it still works on the third wet morning in a row.
Why Advanced Outdoors stocks Fenix
Lighting is one of the few pieces of gear where failure ends the trip. Fenix is in the range because it is built to a standard where that does not happen.
Sealed against the weather
Rated for rain, dust and being dropped in wet scrub - the conditions a headlamp actually lives in.
Rechargeable, with real runtime
USB rechargeable with output levels you can drop to, so a long night does not mean carrying spares for everything.
Levels you will use
A low setting for camp and map reading, a mid for walking, and a high for when you genuinely need to see distance.
Hands free where it matters
Field dressing, changing a tyre, setting up in the dark or walking out late - all jobs that need both hands.
What people use Fenix headlamps for
Four jobs that come up again and again, and the lamp that suits each.
Early starts and late walk-outs
The HM series for sustained output when you are moving in the dark at either end of the day.

A rechargeable lamp that holds charge in the glovebox is worth more than a torch with dead alkalines in it.

How to choose a headlamp
Peak lumens is the number on the box and the least useful thing about a headlamp. These four matter more.
-
Runtime at the level you actually use
Almost nobody walks on maximum. Compare runtime at the mid setting, which is where a lamp spends its life.
-
Weather sealing
A lamp that fails in sustained rain is a lamp that fails on the night you needed it. Check the IP rating, not the marketing.
-
How it charges
USB rechargeable is simplest if you carry a bank anyway. A lamp that also takes standard cells is the better emergency choice.
-
Weight on your head
A heavy lamp is fine for an hour and unpleasant for six. Match the weight to how long you will wear it, not to the brightest model.

Fenix FAQs
What are Fenix headlamps best used for?
Are Fenix headlamps waterproof?
The models we stock are sealed against rain and dust to varying IP ratings - designed for sustained wet weather use rather than a light shower. Check the specific rating on the product page, as it differs across the HM and HL series.
Which Fenix headlamp should I start with?
For most people, a mid-output rechargeable HM model is the right first lamp: enough output for walking in the dark, enough runtime for a long night, and light enough to wear for hours. Step up only if you genuinely need to light up distance.
Do Fenix headlamps use rechargeable batteries?
The HM and HL R-series models are USB rechargeable. Some also accept standard cells as a backup, which is worth having in an emergency or vehicle kit where a lamp might sit unused for months.
Do you stock Fenix torches as well as headlamps?
Our current Fenix range is headlamps. If you are after a handheld torch, get in touch - we can tell you what is available and what would suit the job.
Not sure which headlamp suits you?
Tell us how long you need it to run, how wet it will get and whether it lives in a pack or a glovebox, and we will point you at the right model.
