A small device that plugs into your phone and applies a short burst of concentrated heat, around 50°C for a few seconds to an insect bite. The heat breaks down the proteins in the bite that cause itching and swelling.
Heat-It treats bites with heat, not chemicals
Heat-It is a keyring-sized device that plugs into your phone and applies a short, controlled burst of concentrated heat to an insect bite - which is what actually stops the itching.
Sandflies are a New Zealand fact of life and they ruin trips. We stock Heat-It because it weighs almost nothing, needs no batteries of its own, and does more for a bad bite than another tube of cream.
Why Advanced Outdoors stocks Heat-It
It is one product, and it is in the range because sandflies are the single most reliable complaint about being outside in this country.
It addresses the actual cause
Concentrated heat breaks down the proteins in the bite that trigger the itch response, rather than numbing over the top of it.
Weighs nothing, takes no space
Keyring sized. It lives on your pack or in the glovebox and you forget it is there until you need it.
Runs off your phone
No batteries to go flat in a first aid kit that gets opened twice a year.
Nothing to apply or reapply
No cream on your hands before you handle food, gear or a rifle.
Where Heat-It earns its place
Three kits it belongs in.
Bush and West Coast trips
Sandflies at the hut, the truck and everywhere in between.

What to know before you buy
It is a simple device, but there are a couple of things worth checking so it works when you need it.
-
Check the connector
Heat-It plugs directly into the phone, so make sure you are ordering the version that matches your handset.
-
Treat the bite early
It works best applied soon after the bite, before the reaction has fully developed. Late treatment still helps but not as much.
-
It treats, it does not repel
This is not an alternative to insect repellent - carry both. One stops you being bitten, the other deals with the bites you get anyway.
-
Not for allergic reactions
For a genuine allergic response, this is not the answer. It is for the ordinary itch and swelling of a normal bite.

Heat-It FAQs
What is the Heat-It insect bite healer?
Does it actually work on sandflies?
Yes, sandfly and mosquito bites are exactly what it is designed for. It works best if you treat the bite soon after it happens, before the reaction has fully set in.
Does it need batteries?
No. It draws power from your phone through the connector, which is the main reason it is worth having in a first aid kit - there is nothing in it to go flat between trips.
Does it hurt?
It is hot and you will feel it, but the burst is short and controlled, and the device manages the temperature and duration. Most people describe it as sharp rather than painful.
Should I still carry insect repellent?
Yes. Heat-It treats bites, it does not prevent them. Repellent stops you getting bitten in the first place; Heat-It deals with the ones that get through.
